SsangYong first-ever electric car is launching in 2022. The e-Motion Korando looks substantially the same as the petrol and diesel-powered versions, with only a few minor design changes.
Exterior of the electric SsangYong Korando
To enhance aerodynamics, the front has a blacked-out grille and a redesigned front bumper, which replace the bulk of the air vents present in regular versions. Besides that, the Korando also includes a blue contrasting trim on the front bumper, wing mirror caps, and rear doors, hint to the car’s electric motor. Additionally, sporty alloy wheels and LED headlights with thin blue accents are included. In order to maximize range, the bonnet is made of aluminium in order to minimize weight.
Performance of the electric SsangYong Korando
According to the company, the Korando e-Motion will be driven by a single electric motor and a 61.5kWh battery. This engine generates 187 horsepower, making it the most powerful choice in the Korando range.
The EV will also be the fastest-accelerating Korando, from 0-62mph in the current SsangYong lineup. Although no numbers have been released, the firm has promised “best-in-class” acceleration. To save battery life, the peak speed will be limited to 95 mph.
Range and charging
Under the previous NEDC lab-based testing cycle, SsangYong claims the Korando e-Motion will have a range of about 260 miles. We anticipate a WLTP real-world range of around 200 miles, putting it in the same league as the DS 3 Crossback E-Tense and the Nissan Leaf. While the manufacturer hasn’t released any charging information, we expect fast charging.
