Kia has revealed the official images of the sleek yet muscular fifth-generation Sportage. The all-new design is called the ‘Opposite United’. The Kia Sportage will offer gasoline and diesel powertrains at market launch, followed by hybrid-electric (HEV) and plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) models.
Numerous technologies are included in the new Sportage. One of which is Kia’s E-Handling system that will not only enhance the performance of the vehicle but also improves stability and agility.
Exterior of the Sportage
The front of the Sportage showcases an intricate design form with its detailed-orientated black grille graphic stretching across the width of the face. The technical graphic pulls together the main frontal features of the all-new Sportage, presenting a striking look. The grille links Kia’s modern signature Tiger Nose grille to the distinctive futuristic-styled boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lamps, which in turn create solid boundary lines for the striking Matrix LED headlamps.
The taut lines cutting across the side profile of the all-new Kia Sportage seamlessly blend the contrasting volumes together. In order to highlight the sporting profile of the vehicle, the Sportage provides the option of a different colour roof. The rear of the Sportage allows the SUV to personify strength and stability, with its powerful broad shoulders.
Interior of the Sportage
The inside of the Sportage is a combination of practicality, functionality and versatility.
The high-tech 12-inch touchscreen and advanced integrated controller act as the nerve centre for driver and passenger connectivity, functionality and usability needs. The systems have been created to be easy to use. The 12-inch instrument cluster is equipped with the latest-generation full thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display for precise and clear graphics.
The centre console has been optimally positioned for both the driver and front passenger. It provides storage, operating system configuration, cupholders and soft-touch switches. And besides that, a smartphone charging bay offers high-speed wireless charging. Fully immersive, in-car surround sound is delivered to the occupants via an industry-leading speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system.
Performance of the Sportage
Depending on spec and model, the new Sportage rides on 17-inch, 18-inch or range-topping 19-inch wheels. From launch, a high-tech 1.6-litre TGDI powertrain will be offered in the all-new Sportage line-up, generating 132kW and 265Nm of torque. There is also a 2.0-liter diesel engine developing 137kW and 416Nm. The 1.6-liter TGDI engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (7DCT), while a 6-speed manual transmission is also available. The new R2.0-liter diesel engine comes with an extensively re-engineered 8-speed automatic transmission.
