BMW has launched two of their latest electric vehicles, the i4 sedan and the iX crossover which will both be available in Singapore from Q1 of 2022 and Q4 of 2021 respectively.
Exterior of the i4
The i4’s biggest design feature, like the rest of the 4-series, is the kidney grille on the front. The i4 eDrive40 also featured multiple i3-like blue accents.
With its own long expanse of top glass that reaches into the rear seat and comes with a tilting and opening front portion, the i4 is unique in the segment.
Interior of the i4
The spacious interior of the i4 displays BMW’s new Curved Display, a futuristic curved dual-screen design specially to cater for
the needs of the driver. Furthermore, the conscious restraint in the arrangement of controls creates a modern yet simultaneous luxurious ambience.
Unlike many electric vehicles that get a frunk, the i4 will not provide one. But despite that, the i4 is still as spacious and comfortable as the 4-series Gran Coupe which is completed with a hatch trunk.
Performance of the i4
The new four-door Gran Coupé is an emission-free car that combines comfort and elegance, as well as BMW’s trademark sporting prowess. It comes in two variations, the BMW i4 eDrive40 and the BMW i4 M50, the first electric car to carry the M badge. However, only the i4 eDrive40 will be available in Singapore for the time being.
The 81.5kWh battery, support up to 200kW DC fast charging (CCS Combo 1 in the US and Combo 2 abroad) resulting in an 80% charge in about 40 minutes and handling up to 11kW AC charging for a full charge in 9 hours.
Exterior of the iX
Since there is no engine up front, the kidney grille is blocked off and covered with a cross-hatched panel to fool the eye into thinking a traditional grille is there. That panel contains emergency braking sensors, radars, and other sensors. It’s part of BMW’s so-called “Shy Tech,” which aims to hide tech features behind stylish curtains.
Slim, smoky LED’s adorn the taillights of the stylish clamshell tailgate. Standard wheels are twenty inches, but 21- and 22-inch wheels are optional.
Interior of the iX
A minimalist interior combines electric elements with appropriate richness (open-pore wood and Swarovski crystal controls). An electrochromic, nearly full-length sunroof dims with the touch of a button. The iX’s spacious interior is enhanced by the absence of a transmission tunnel, which makes it feel more spacious than the gas-powered X5. In the rear, three passengers can sit together comfortably.
The spacious interior of the iX displays BMW’s new Curved Display, a futuristic curved dual-screen design specially to cater for the needs of the driver.
Performance of the iX
A new take on the SAV segment, the iX is a whole new take on the activity vehicle segment, built from the ground up with electric mobility in mind. There are two model variants, the BMW iX xDrive40 with 326bhp and the BMW iX iDrive50 with 523bhp. However, only the iX xDrive40 will be available in Singapore for now. An M version, the iX M60, will join the lineup in the near future, delivering more than 600bhp.
The impressive charging performance allows you to charge over 95km in 10 minutes for the xDrive40 and up to 150km for the xDrive50.
